You can’t stand the windshield wipers up, because they’re under the end of the hood.
With a snow storm imminent, I wonder if maybe I should at least turn the wipers on and shut the car off while they’re up, so they’re easier to pick up and clean off.

Another problem with P71 ownership? You own a P71

My XJ has clips that once up pull them up, slide the clip over, then it keeps them from touching glass, but it’s still only 2-3".
It doesn't have that?

turn the wipers on and shut the car off while they’re up
That’s the way to do it.

Standing the wipers up for extended periods of time wears out the springs in the arm. Eventually, they’d have to be replaced due to insufficient contact pressure.

Too true. First car I’ve ever owned where ya can’t. Annoying since I bought it for a winter ride. P71 life bro.

In the Passat, you turn off the ignition and then have 30 seconds to pull the wiper stalk to the single wipe position. The wipers come up and stay at full upright, where you can then fold them back from the glass. Just remember to put them down before opening the hood...

Since they park down so low they won’t ice up as much as you may think - I parked my p71 outside when I was in college in Erie, PA (where a random overnight foot of snow was fairly common) and didn’t have many issues with them always being down.
That said, if you want them off the glass, you can still prop the arms up on something so the blades aren’t on the glass/cowl.

Was about to mention this, seems to be the normal way to do it on cars with under-hood parking wipers.

It'll be my second choice...wife has a ML350, so that'll be used for the weekend.

It's weird, the arms aren't even able to fold up that far. I left them up by turning off the car with them on, but all I can do is pick them up a few inches.
